Our Story:

It all started with the bees . . .

A few years back we, Lee and Susan, purchased a property in the Persimmon Valley area of Rabun County, Georgia with the thought of retiring one day in southern Appalachia. Did you know that Appalachia is home to more salamander species than anywhere else in the world? That’s nothing to do with Our Story, really, but we do find them fascinating.

There came a day we were talking about the plight of honeybees. Susan mentioned it’d be a good idea to have some bees, help them survive, help pollinate plants, and of course get some fine honey. Lee promptly went and bought bees, hives, all the gear. Unknown to Susan until some time afterward was Lee’s expectation that it’d be a sort of joint venture, but that’s a story for another day; suffice it to say that Lee was in the bee venture on his own. Oh, boy, did Lee collect some fine honey including incomparable sourwood. In time Lee collected from the hives wax cappings that he melted and filtered thereby producing lovely beeswax.

Lee is a frugal and innovative fellow, and for years he’d seen Susan using a particular brand of lotion bars. Naturally, Lee being Lee, he offered to make for Susan a better lotion bar using his own beeswax. Susan pshawed and said, Sure, go ahead. So it began that Lee would present to Susan a lotion bar, and Susan would reject it describing all that was wrong. This went on over the course of a couple months until one day Lee handed to Susan a lotion bar that surpassed the brand she’d been using for many years and, indeed, surpassed all expectations. It was the PERFECT lotion bar because it moisturized without leaving a waxy or greasy feel but rather an almost silky feel.

Our lotion bars are so very good that we want to share them with those who, as does Susan, like lotion bars. We add various essential oils for the benefits they provide and for their scent. Our bars are handcrafted in small batches from natural ingredients, and they’ll stay that way. In time, with all that we’re learning along the way, we’ll be creating and offering additional natural products. We invite you to join us.
